Description
Of the few medieval stone arched bridges left in Scotland, Stirling Old Bridge is one of the best. It’s more than 80m long and has four semicircular arches, supported by three piers.
The bridge was closed to wheeled traffic in 1832, and replaced by a new one downstream, designed by Robert Stevens. Viewed in the height of a Scottish spring, the bridge is especially lovely with vibrant flowers in the foreground providing a nice splash of color. The William Wallace Memorial can be seen in the background. When visiting the much more famous site of this little town, Stirling Castle, you pass right by this important piece of medieval history!
