Description
When most people think of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, most likely they think of bears, scenic landscapes, mountain streams, hiking trails, waterfalls, and so on. Unless you're able to spend time in this popular park in different times of year, there may be many aspects that are missed by the casual visitor. Although I've visited the park throughout my life, it wasn't until I moved to the area and was able to frequent this amazing ecosystem year round, that I really became aware of the natural treasures that can be found. Wildflowers abound, especially in the springtime. They can be found along river banks, deep in the woods, along the main roads through the park, and along the hiking trails. One of my favorites is the wild iris that make their appearance in late spring and early summer.
